Simsbury Crew Wins Quinsigamond Cup

Simsbury Crew's boys first V1 finished first in competitive races at the Quinsigamond Regatta known as the "Q Cup" in Worcester, Massachusetts on Sunday, May 1st. Facing competition from East Lyme, St. John's High School (MA), Brookline (MA), Shrewsbury (MA), and Glastonbury, rowers raced a 1500-meter course under favorable conditions.

The Simsbury boys first varsity boat raced passed the finish line at 4:34.0. This was 2 seconds ahead of St. John’s to take first place. There were six boats racing in total. Rowing in the Grit for Simsbury was Alex Baroncelli (coxswain), Matthew Dacey (stroke), Jack Galt (7th seat), Aaron Harris (6th seat), Dante Oliveira (5th seat), Zakary Schwarz (4th seat), Nelson Perry (3rd seat), Jack Williams (2nd seat), and Luke Williams (bow). The crew is coached by Adam Askham.

Simsbury had two other boys boats racing: boys second varsity (5:11.5) and third varsity (5:49.5). Simsbury also had three girls boats racing: The girls first varsity (5:33.0), second varsity (6:10.3), and fourth varsity (6:10.3). Although our other boats did not place first, they rowed hard against tough competition.

Coach Adam Askham said this about the victorious V1 boat, “The boys in the Grit had a good race today. There are areas we can approve in order to gain more speed for the championship part of our season in a few weeks. The team as a whole is a good group who are willing to get better every day. I am excited to get back to work on the water and see how much faster we can get.”
