On Sunday, 22 September, the Simsbury Crew, along with their coaches and families, gathered at the boathouse for the much anticipated annual Erg-a-Thon and family picnic. After last year’s wet weather at the erg-a-thon, Sunday gave us a picture-perfect fall day.
The day began with each athlete completing a ten-minute rowing session on ergs (rowing machines). Armed with pledge sheets and the support of generous sponsors, the rowers each gave their best effort to raise funds for the Friends of the Simsbury Crew. The camaraderie and encouragement among team members were truly inspiring to witness.
Following the intense workout, everyone gathered for a well-deserved picnic featuring hamburgers, hotdogs, and a delicious array of shared salads and desserts. The event also marked the introduction of Simsbury Crew's new captains for the 2024/2025 year: Christopher Morris, Jacob Searles, Elizabeth Bache, and Avery Fish.

Ergs were also set up so that family members could get an opportunity to try them out. A highlight of the day was when adventurous parents and siblings took to the boat, gaining a firsthand appreciation of their children's experience on a boat, in the water.
The Simsbury Crew are now training hard, in preparation for their first regatta, the Head of the Riverfront. This will be taking place in Hartford on Sunday 6 October.
