Simsbury DAR Helps Send Veterans On Special Trip
The chapter helped 42 veterans visit Washington D.C. monuments Saturday as part of 'Honor Flight Connecticut.'

SIMSBURY, CT — The Simsbury-chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Saturday hosted a special program to help veterans journey to Washington D.C. to honor their legacies.
Members of the Abigail Phelps Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) from Simsbury participated in an early morning send-off celebration for the Saturday's "Honor Flight Connecticut" at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks.
DAR officials said 45 veterans from World War II as well as the Korean and Vietnam wars were escorted by volunteers on a one-day visit to Washington, DC to view various monuments and observe the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery.

"Along the way they were treated to other lively welcomes, meals, a bus tour and a late-night bagpipe-playing return to waiting families at Bradley Airport," wrote the Simsbury DAR chapter.
Simsbury DAR said retired Navy Lt. Commander James Tierney of West Hartford was escorted by Lee Wilson of Avon, an Army Desert Storm veteran.

He is a member of the New Britain VFW and Avon American Legion.
