Simsbury Dump Now Accepting Food Waste

The Simsbury Transfer Station is participating in a pilot program to collect food waste and have it used for biofuel.

Town of Simsbury

SIMSBURY, CT — The town's public works department Wednesday reminded residents of Simsbury's ongoing food waste recycling program.

The program started on April 20 in partnership with Paine's Inc. as a new pilot program to accept residential food waste at the transfer station on Wolcott Road.

A permit for the facility is required and it can be obtained when the transfer station is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

From there, the food waste is hauled to a special contractor that transforms the food waste into biofuel, which is seen as an energy-efficient and green fuel source.
