Simsbury Election Results 2018: Winners Declared

Residents elected a new governor and also cast their ballots on key local and state races and a U.S. Senate seat.

SIMSBURY, CT — Voters in Simsbury have apparently returned a pair of incumbents to represent them in Hartford, while the race for Judge of Probate remained up in the air as midnight approached.

In the battle for the 8th District seat in the state Senate, Republican incumbent Kevin Witkos led Democratic challenger Melissa E. Osborne by a 26,313 to 20,094 count, with one precinct yet to report results as of 11:45 p.m. Witkos has held the seat since 2009, representing the towns of Avon, Barkhamsted, Canton, Colebrook, Granby, Hartland, Harwinton, New Hartford, Norfolk, Simsbury, and Torrington.

In the state House of Representatives, incumbent District 16 Democrat John Hampton collected 7,569 votes to outdistance Republican challenger Tim Walczak, who had 5,112. Petitioning candidate Robert Kalechman received 51 votes.

For probate judge, with 80 percent of precincts reporting, Republican incumbent Cynthia C. Becker leads Democratic challenger Charles Houlihan, 13,990 to 13,405.

U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty did not seek re-election for her 5th District seat. With 79 percent of precincts reporting, Democrat Jahana Hayes had tallied 116,036 votes to 90,567 for Republican Manny Santos.
