Simsbury Gets Boost To Help Folks Stay Warm
Simsbury selectmen have approved two separate donations aiding the 'Keep Simsbury Warm' program for those struggling to stay warm.
SIMSBURY, CT — A local program to keep folks warm during the winter recently received a major boost from two local benefactors, an especially appropriate action given the ongoing cold snap.
The Simsbury Board of Selectmen unanimously approved $12,000 in donations from local community groups for the "Keep Simsbury Warm" program, which is administered by the town's social services department for qualifying residents burdened by heating bills.
Selectmen approved those donations by unanimously saying "yes" to the board's consent agenda that night. Consent agendas are when several items are merged into one particular vote.

The first donation approved came courtesy of the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, which contributed $2,000 to the fuel bank program.
"The donation will be used to aid residents in need with their home heating costs and utility bills," reads a proposal narrative.

According to local ordinances, any donations of more than $1,500 must be approved by selectmen at an open meeting.
Meanwhile, Garrity Asphault Reclaiming Inc. also donated $10,000 to help the "Keep Simsbury Warm" program operate.
