Simsbury Girl Wins Event at LL Track Championships

The Trojan girls placed sixth and the boys were 13th at the Class LL meet in New Haven Thursday.

Simsbury High School had one individual winner and a runnerup finisher Thursday in the Class LL indoor track and field championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

Vickie Milledge, a junior, easily captured the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.35 seconds, nearly a quarter-second fast than runnerup Bridget Chiaravalle of Danbury.

The 4x200 relay team of Julia Dowd, Devon Shugdinis, Jessica Dowd and Jordan Shugdinis finished third. Wei-Ling Sun was fourth in the long jump, and sixth-place finishes were posted by Naomi Garcia (long jump), the 4x400 relay team (Jessica Dowd, Devon Shugdinis, Mikayla Bibbins and Milledge) and the 1600 sprint medley team (Jessica Dowd, Devon Shugdinis, Hannah Earnhardt and Sarah Soja).

The Trojan girls placed sixth of 23 teams that scored at the meet.

On the boys’ side, junior Joshua Prell was second in the 300 meters and senior Jake Dowd took sixth in the 55 meter hurdles.
