SIMSBURY, CT — A grocer in the Drake Hill Mall in Simsbury is taking a different approach than most to the coronavirus pandemic that is sweeping the nation, by encouraging shoppers to not bring their own reusable bags to the store.

In a message posted Thursday on its Facebook page, Fitzgerald's Foods wrote:

In an effort to help control the spread of COVID-19, Fitzgerald's will not charge for paper bags until further notice. We encourage you to leave your reusable bags at home until the pandemic is under control.

Shoppers have been bringing their own bags to Fitzgerald's since last summer, when single-use plastic bags were banned. Customers without bags are issued paper bags, at a cost of 10 cents per.
