Simsbury High School Crew Team Wins Emerson Bowl Again

Simsbury High School’s Crew Team won the Emerson Bowl again at the Connecticut Public School Rowing Association (“CPSRA”) Championship this past weekend. In fact, Simsbury has won this award 12 times since 2000, including last year’s win. The Coaches and the Team are proud to bring home this honor again this year.
CPSRA was founded in 2000 by league coaches to promote public school rowing in Connecticut. The regatta is held each year on Lake Waramaug in New Preston, CT. The lake has a six lane fully buoyed 1500m course. Originally, there were 6 teams racing in a final only format. This year, there were 12 teams racing and over 25 events. Excitement rose during morning heats, where Simsbury’s teams finished first in almost every heat they were in. The afternoon’s final events proved to have exciting finishes and fabulous results.
First place winners were the 1st Novice Girls (5:46.8), the 3rd Varsity Girls (5:55.3), the 3rd Varsity Boys (5:13.9) and the 2nd Varsity Girls (5:43.2). Most first place winners came in strong, winning by at least 5 seconds from 2nd Place finishers. 1st Varsity Girls finished in Second place by a hair more than a second of time (5:24.6). Other Second place finishes came from the 2nd Varsity Boys (5:12.7) and the 1st Varsity Boys (4:48.9). First place went to Stonington in each of those races. 1st Novice Boys ended their day in 4th Place (5:24.6).
