Simsbury High School to Present Free Concert December 14
155 student singers will present a choral program including classic repertoire, holiday favorites, and Part 1 of Handel's Messiah.

Music will fill the auditorium at Simsbury High School on Thursday, December 14, starting at 7:00 pm, as the choral music department presents the annual Winter Concert. The concert is free and the public is warmly invited. Snow date is December 15.
All 155 members of the Simsbury High School choirs: the SHS Men’s Choir, Treble Choir, Women’s Chorale, Mixed Chorale, and Simsbury Singers, will be participating in the concert. The choirs will be performing a program of standard choral repertoire, with a few holiday favorites sprinkled in. The three student-led a cappella groups: Andiamo, No Fella A Cappella, and Unaccompanied Minors will also be performing crowd favorites.
Fans of Handel’s Messiah take note, for the second half of the concert, the Simsbury Singers and Mixed Chorale will come together and be joined by the SHS Chamber Orchestra and professional wind players to present part one of Handel’s Messiah. The audience will rise and be invited to sing along on the final stirring Hallelujah Chorus. Words to the chorus are printed in the program, but audience members are invited to bring their own score.

Director’s Notes
Welcome to the December concert! The repertoire for this concert is mostly standard choral
repertoire appropriate for any time of year with a few holiday favorites sprinkled in. Simsbury Singers
and Mixed Chorale will be performing Part I of Handel’s Messiah for the second half of the concert.
Accompanying us will be Dr. Ford and the SHS chamber orchestra, as well as professional keyboard and
wind players. Messiah is a professional-level work featuring difficult full choir movements and solo
movements. It has been a huge goal of mine to conduct this piece at SHS. It takes a very special group of
choristers, soloists, and instrumentalists to pull it off - and this cohort of students was up for the
challenge! I am extremely proud of all of them for their dedication and professionalism. If you know the
Hallelujah Chorus, feel free to stand and join us!
The Northern Regionals festival will be held in January. 29 SHS choral students were selected by
audition to sing in the Northern Regionals Festival choir: Grade 12 - Sophie Capobianco, Matt
DeAngelo, Molly Grossman, Maria Hodson (violin), Kyle St. Sauveur, Grace Sullivan, Mallory
Thompson; Grade 11 - Catherine Cantelmo, Ava Couchon, Maddie Fabian, Benjamin Grossman, Devin
Hoffman, Sarah Poole, Brynly Rich, Emmalee Richards, Annalise Shingleton, Emily Steele, Ethan
Windisch; Grade 10 - Claire Choi, David Hollander, Maria Lepak, Luke Pace, Michael Riso, Ainsley
Thompson, Ajeeth Vellore, Caroline Vlach; Grade 9 - Elisabetta Marchetti, Daniela Rovalino, Pranav
Seshadri. Great job to all students who auditioned and congratulations to those of you who will be
representing SHS at the festival!
Thank you to all students who participated in Holiday Cabaret this year – especially, the leaders:
Molly Grossman, Mallory Thompson and Ethan Windisch. The group once again raised thousands of
dollars for the Hartford food pantry Loaves and Fishes. Students at SHS truly make a positive difference
in our community!
Finally, please consider supporting the SHS choral program by visiting the bake sale table during
intermission and after the concert. Please also consider ordering a CD of tonight’s concert. All you have
to do is fill out a Soundwaves order form and drop it off at the table in the lobby after the concert.
We hope you enjoy the concert! Have a peaceful and joyful holiday season!
Sincerely,
Colleen Thompson
SHS Choral Director
