Simsbury Library Plans Library Card Month Celebration

SIMSBURY, CT — Some libraries are celebrating the Americal Library Association's "Library Card Month," which is September.

Then there's the Simsbury Public Library.

On Friday, Sept. 8, the Simsbury Public Library, 725 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, is hosting a much larger event, so large, it is called "Library Card Palooza."

While no 1990s alternative rock acts are expected, folks attending the event — slated from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the library's lawn — will be able to enjoy live music by Camden Fuller and Kyle Langlois.

"Library Card Palooza" aims to encourage families and children to get library cards and showcase what the library has to offer.

And it also will be an unofficial kickstart to the election season, with voter registration cards being distributed at the event as well. Simsbury, like all towns in the state, is having municipal elections this November.

But there's more, including refreshments, mocktails and s’mores, lawn games and additional activities for all ages.

"Help us celebrate Library Card Month, register to vote, and kick back with the #simsbury community after work courtesy of #SimsburyPublicLibrary," wrote the library via social media.

While the event is scheduled to be outdoors, it will be inside in the case of inclement weather or extreme temperatures.

Registration is not required, but is optional.
