The Simsbury Light Opera Company (SLOCO) is celebrating its 75th season in 2020. The season opens on March 28 with Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance at Eno Memorial Hall in Simsbury, the same show and venue of SLOCO’s first production back in 1946. SLOCO’s 75th annual production is led by Artistic Director Renée Haines of Southington and Music Director Nathaniel Baker of Wakefield, RI.
Familiar faces to SLOCO audiences include Mark McNally, a 41-year member of SLOCO, as Major-General Stanley. Past president Kari Mackey of Bloomfield, plays Isabel, another of the major-general's daughters. Appearing as the Pirate King is Jay Marshall Wolman of West Hartford, in his fifth season with SLOCO. His lieutenant, Samuel, is played by Ralph Sherman of New Britain, president of SLOCO, in his sixth year with the troupe. Jonathan Jacobson of Litchfield, appearing in his third lead role with SLOCO, portrays the Sergeant of Police. Ruth, the pirates' “maid-of-all-work” is played by Armen Kevorkian of Marlborough, who was Lady Jane in last year’s Patience.
