Simsbury Obituary: Addie Thomas, 87

Condolences to her family and friends.

Addie Lorraine (Smith) Thomas, 87 of Simsbury, transitioned from this earthly life on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut.

She was born on July 30, 1928, in Portsmouth, Virginia, daughter of the late Willie Sherrod Smith and Lillie Powell. Lorraine was a graduate of Howard University and Adelphi University and went on to be an elementary school teacher in Brooklyn, NY. She was an active member of Bethel A.M.E. Church NEAT program, Bloomfield Senior Center, Hebrew Home Adult Daycare and Granby Senior Center. She enjoyed showing and sharing her works of art with friends and family.

She is survived by two children, Sharon Renee Thomas of Simsbury and Adrian Jon Thomas of Riverhead, NY; her brothers Willie Sherrod Smith (Nina) of Durham, NC and Henry E. Smith Sr. (Jeanette) of Cheseapeake, VA; Grandchildren Adrian Jon and Sheyenne Renee and a host of relatives.

Services on Saturday, January 30, 2016; viewing at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 1154 Blue Hills Avenue, Bloomfield. Services entrusted to All Faith Memorial Chapel, 90 John Fitch Blvd. South Windsor.
