
Hugh Lamond Dill, Jr., 85, of Simsbury, formerly of Bristol, beloved husband of the late Patricia (Titcomb) Dill, passed away peacefully Friday (November 13, 2015) at the McLean Home in Simsbury.
Born in Detroit on August 14, 1930, son of the late Dr. Hugh L. Dill and Ione Marson, Hugh spent his childhood in Grosse Pointe, MI. Hugh graduated from Kalamazoo College in Michigan with a B.S. in business and later earned his M.A. and Sixth Year at Columbia University in New York. After college, he served in the United States Navy Reserve.
Hugh spent his entire professional career in education, working as a teacher in Long Island, Assistant Superintendent in Bristol and, for many years, Principal of Ivy Drive School in Bristol. Hugh was much loved by his students, teachers and staff. In addition to his career in education, Hugh served his community as a lifetime member of the Bristol Kiwanis Club and was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Farmington for over forty years.

accomplished and passionate tennis player, Hugh led his college team to numerous victories and continued playing the sport for most of his life, competing in many local tournaments and coaching the Bristol Central High School varsity team.
Hugh was known to all he touched for his sense of humor and optimism. He was a dedicated and beloved husband and father, and to his two grandchildren he was a special Papa.

Hugh is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Bob Rosenthal of Avon, his grandchildren, Jennifer Rosenthal of Waterbury and Michael Rosenthal of Storrs, his sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Ray Schumann of Naples, FL, and his sister, Barbara Gwillim of Colorado, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main Street, Rt. 4, Unionville on Friday (Nov. 20th) from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday (Nov. 21st) at 10:30am a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, Mountain Road, Farmington.
