Simsbury Obituary: John Blumenfeld, 59

John Blumenfeld, 59, passed away on August 8, 2017 in Bloomfield after a long illness.

He was born on November 10, 1957 in Pittsfield, MA to John and Jean (Shepardson) Blumenfeld. John grew up in Pittsfield and in Simsbury. He graduated from Simsbury High School. After high school, he attended the University of Hartford in West Hartford where he received a B.S. in Business Administration/Marketing. He worked in the manufacturing department of Beekley Corporation in Bristol as their industrial programmer and electrician for the past 15 years.

John enjoyed fixing cars and home repair and remodeling. He raised a German Shepherd for the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation.

As a child, John discovered the snare drum his father had used in the marching band at the University of Wisconsin. Drumming became his passion. He studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, and also at the Hartt School in West Hartford with jazz saxophonist Jackie McLean. He played drums in jazz bands in the Hartford area and recorded music he made with friends. Those who knew John shall miss him.

He is survived by his parents, his sister Amy Blumenfeld of Lewisboro, NY, brother-in-law Seth Coplan, nephew Aidan, an uncle, aunts, cousins including special cousin Bob Hickey and many dear friends.

Arrangements are being handled by the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center. A private memorial service will be held at Simsbury Cemetery at a later date.
