Simsbury Obituary: Michael Laureno, Jr., 79

Condolences to his family and friends.

Michael E. Laureno, Jr., 79, longtime resident of Simsbury and beloved husband of the late Geraldine (Ballo) Laureno, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Hartford Hospital.

He was born on November 27, 1937, in Stamford, son of the late Michael and Concetta (Tarzia) Laureno. Mr. Laureno owned and operated Laureno Lumber and Millwork and was elected Lumber Person of the Year in 2001 by the Lumber Dealers Association of Connecticut.

Michael was Past President of the CT Early Ford V8 Club of America, Past President of CT Lumber Dealers Association of Connecticut from 1999-2000, and a past member of the CT 100 Club and was a longtime member of the Home Builders Association of Connecticut. Michael enjoyed doing restorations of early Ford V8 cars, and loved to travel to his second home in Aruba.

He is survived by two daughters, Karen Laureno and her husband Tom Heyse of Suffield, and Christine Giglio and her husband Leonard Giglio of Simsbury; four grandchildren, Andrew Laureno, Emily, Mathew and Jeffrey Giglio; a brother Larry Laureno and his wife Mary of East Granby; a sister Elaine Evans of South Weymouth, MA and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by a sister Maureen Weiss.

Relatives and friends may gather on Sunday, September 24th from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 25th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 942 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery.
