Simsbury Obituary: Ned Kendall, 73

Ned H. Kendall, 73, a resident of Granby and Simsbury most of his life, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016, at his home.

Born in Hartford on May 30, 1943, he was the son of the late Marion (Maknur) Kendall and Howard R. Kendall. He was predeceased by his wife Pat in 2011, a loving and devoted wife for 47 years, and a son, Edward J. Kendall in 2012, whom he missed more than words can say.

Ned was a truck driver for 33 years, working for Wooster Express, Carolina Freight, and ABF Freight. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to the casino. He was a big UConn Basketball fan. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1960 and served until his honorable discharge in 1966 as a proud Seabee. He was member of the Navy Seabee Veterans of America, Island X-1 in Torrington and Shannon-Shattuck Post #182, American Legion in Granby. He was a member of the Mt. Hunt Club in Hartland and the Simsbury Fish & Game Club where he had also served as president. Proud of his work as a truck driver, he was a member of the Teamsters Local #671 Retiree's Association and had served as recording secretary.

He leaves a loving daughter, Sharon L. Ferreira who was always there; three grandchildren, Cody F. Ferreira, and Jackson and Charles Kendall; and a loving companion of Edward Kendall who stood by him with love and help, Carmen L. Sharp. He also leaves two nieces, Alicia and Heidi Bartlett; and two close friends who were like brothers, Dan Leonard and Clyde Carpenter.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, July 9, 11 a.m., at Granby Cemetery, North Granby Rd., Granby.
