Simsbury Obituary: Peter Calnen, 69

Peter Calnen, 69, of Simsbury, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Ryan) Calnen, died Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at John Dempsey Hospital.

He was born August 30, 1946 in Springfield, MA, son of the late Timothy and Ada (Borden) Calnen and had lived in Longmeadow, MA prior to moving to Simsbury 32 years ago. Mr. Calnen owned and operated Calnen Financial in Simsbury for many years prior to his retirement. He was the former Commissioner of the Simsbury Parks and Recreation and the Economic Development Department and had served on the Democratic Town Committee. Peter was a member of the Simsbury Camera Club, having enjoyed photography, especially NASCAR and Formula One Racing. In his earlier days, he enjoyed racquetball, hiking and biking.

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his daughter, Cindy Calnen Tarello and her husband Christopher Tarello; his twin granddaughters, Ryan Faith and Mia Hope Tarello; three brothers, Timothy Calnen and his wife Martha and Gerald Calnen and his wife JoAnn, and Terrence Calnen.

Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Friday, December 18th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be celebrated at the funeral home on Saturday, December 19th at 1:00 PM. Burial will be private.
