
Vanda “Wilma” (Kimmerle) Diters, 93, of Torrington, wife of the late Richard H. Diters, Jr. died, Friday, January 22, 2016 at Wolcott Hall in Torrington.
She was born June 26, 1922 in Canton, daughter of the late William J. and Vanda L (Sobieski) Kimmerle and had lived in Canton for most of her life. Mrs. Diters was a graduate of Central Connecticut State College and received her Masters Degree in Special Education from St. Joseph’s College in West Hartford. Mrs. Diters started teaching in a one room school in Granby, then the Simsbury school systems for 32 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Simsbury Education Association and the Retired Teachers Association of Connecticut.
Wilma loved her pool, gardening, fishing and spending time at her camp at Round Pond in Vermont. She was a gifted crafter and having won many blue ribbons at the fairs for her rug and chair seat hooking and knitting of her beautiful sweaters. Wilma devoted herself to her own family and especially to her five grandchildren as they were growing up.

She is survived by her two sons and daughter, Richard W. Diters of Williamstown, NY, Timothy E. Diters and his wife Carol of Gilbertsville, NY and Jane Szollosy and her husband Joseph Szollosy, Jr. of Torrington; five grandchildren, Eric Diters of Alexandria, VA, Seth Diters of Tallahassee, FL, Jessica Diters Alexander of Oswego, NY, Justin Diters of Williamstown, NY and Sara Kate Szollosy of Torrington; her great grandson, Brayden Alexander of Oswego, NY; two nieces, Nancy Sellen of Wenonah, NJ and Cynthia Swanson of Ocala, FL; a nephew, Edward Kimmerle of Connecticut. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Edward and Robert Kimmerle.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Southwest Cemetery, at a date and time to be announced.
