Simsbury Selectmen Declare Town A 'Recovery-Friendly Community'
The move aims to create positive climate in town that de-stigmatizes addicts.
SIMSBURY, CT — In move aimed at destigmatizing those in recovery, among other benefits, the Simsbury Board of Selectmen earlier this month unanimously designated the town as a "Recovery-Friendly Community."
Back in 2020, the nonprofit organization "A Promise to Jordan" approached the town about the designation, which was endorsed by selectmen back then.
On Sept. 13, selectmen unanimously made that official.

"Expected benefits of a RFC may be reduced substance use, reduced overdoses, reduced crime, an improved community sense of compassion, humanity and citizenship, and positive statewide visibility," reads a summary of the proposal presented to selectmen.
According to the summary, there is no cost associated with the designation, rather a commitment to "raise awareness of the nature of substance use, promote recovery by reducing stigma/discrimination and build the environmental factors necessary for those who need it."
