Simsbury PD Issues Scammer Alert Warning
Scams are common this time of year, but they can happen any time, Simsbury police say.
SIMSBURY, CT — 'Tis the season for a lot of things this time of year, including scammers trying to separate your money from your wallet.
But, as the Simsbury Police Department pointed out Wednesday, scams can happen at any time.
This is why the SPD put out a warning to residents about how to avoid such scams which can come at the ring of a doorbell or the sound of a phone.

"Always be vigilant about not becoming a victim," wrote Simsbury police.
"Some of the common scams involve the topics of Publishers Clearing House, the purchasing of gift cards, threats unless money is received, asking for personal identifying information, etc. "

Some tips offered by the SPD include:
• Never give out personal or bank details over the phone.
• Don't feel pressured to make decisions on the phone.
• If a caller is vague about giving out company information, hang up.
• Don't open text messages or answer calls from unrecognizable numbers.
• Consider a call-blocking device to filter out unwanted calls.
