SIMSBURY, CT — Folks of a certain generation may recall family car trips where just sitting in the back seat was considered safe.

But, as safety regulations and practices have modernized, car seats are as an important part of child safety in cars as seat belts and the vehicles themselves.

Which is why the Simsbury Police Department's "Halloween Free Car Seat Clinic" on Saturday is something local parents should think about attending.

Simsbury's car seat clinic is at the Weatogue Fire Department headquarters, 251 Hopmeadow St., Weatogue (a village in Simsbury).

No appointment is necessary and the clinic will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Whether the child is a newborn or a small-sized tween, parents need to have the right car/booster seat.

Police will inspect car seats to determine if they're safely installed or if they need a bit more work, as a car seat installed improperly doesn't provide the level of security as a properly installed one.
