Simsbury PD Seeks Public Input As It Seeks Reaccreditation

SIMSBURY, CT — Local police are looking for public input as it seeks re-accreditation from the law enforcement field's major accreditation agency.

The Simsbury Police Department is currently seeking its 2nd year re-accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

CALEA has scheduled a review for Aug. 18-26.

During this time, a compliance service manager (CSM) from CALEA will remotely review 115 files (25 percent) for compliance, including policy and procedure as well as proofs of compliance.

As a result, the Simsbury Police Department said it "values the opinions of our community and welcomes comment and feedback regarding the department’s quality of service as well as any other information relevant to the accreditation process."

Accreditation is seen as crucial to a law enforcement agency because the standards are rigorous and it is seen as positive measuring stick to a department's law enforcement operations.

CALEA maintains an access portal which allows for public comment and feedback. This portal can be accessed through the Simsbury Police Department’s website or at this link.
