SIMSBURY, CT — The police asking the public for assistance investigating a hoax phone call

On Thursday, the Simsbury Police Department received a call from someone who claimed to be a five-year-old. The caller reported that her mother had fallen, and was asleep. The caller provided a Simsbury address.

First responders, which included an ambulance, discovered there was no medical emergency at the reported location.

While officers remained on the phone with the child, other police canvassed the area in an attempt to locate the calling party. Other officers used technology and other investigative resources to find the location of the call.

Police say that after exhausting all resources, including checking every home on the street where the emergency was reported to be, contacting police departments both local and out of state, and following up on leads provided by residents, they determined the phone all had been part of a hoax.

"Please use this as an opportunity to teach young children the importance of knowing how to dial 911 in case of an emergency and to know their street address," a police spokesperson posted on social media." Police stressed the importance of children not only knowing their first and last names, but the first and last names of the people they live with.
