Simsbury: Property Tax Breaks Available for Elderly/Veterans/Disabled

The town's assessor's office is collecting applications to help qualifying taxpayers get a break on their tax bills this year.

SIMSBURY, CT — Eligible seniors and disabled residents may be able to benefit from tax breaks on their homes/property, according to Simsbury town officials.

Starting this month, the Simsbury Assessor's Office has been accepting applications for those programs, with filing deadlines of May 15 and Oct. 1.

The May 15 deadline is for the elderly/disabled homeowner benefit, while teh Oct. 1 deadline is for the additional veteran exemption.

"New applicants or those who did not qualify when they last applied are also welcome to apply," wrote the Town of Simsbury in an announcement.

"Application forms have been mailed to those due to re-apply and are also available on the assessor’s webpage or in the assessor’s office."

There are age and income restrictions on the tax breaks and town officials have made available various information pieces for folks to look at to see what they qualify for.

Applications can be returned by mail until April 15 to Simsbury Town Hall, Assessor’s Office, 933 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, CT 06070. After April 15, applications can be dropped off in person to the assessor’s office, with folks asked to schedule an appointment by calling 860-658-3251.
