Simsbury Resident Wins Fairview Farm Junior Classic

15-year-old Mikayla Sheary shot an even par 72 making her best round of the tournament.

Hard work is beginning to pay off for 15-year-old Mikayla Sheary who won the Fairview Farm Junior Classic last week during the Junior Connecticut PGA Championship.

Sheary won the tournament by 7 strokes with an even par 72, a big jump for the young golfer after a tough loss last Monday at Yale.

"She didn't have her best game at Yale but she never gave up," Ken Doyle, Director of Golf Instruction at , said.

Sheary returned on Wednesday with a renewed focus and put her skills to work. Sheary ended the day with 5 birdies, 5 bogies, and 8 pars.

"Everything just clicked for her," Doyle said. "That was 5 shots better than her previous best round."

Sheary will be a sophomore at Simsbury High School this fall and plays golf during the summer at Hop Meadow Country Club.

"She's been getting progressively better and better," Doyle said. She's not only a great student, but she's also the best dressed out there."
