Want To Learn About The Simsbury Police Department? Join The Academy

The Simsbury Police Department is looking for people to sign up for the annual Citizens Police Academy, which starts up next month.

SIMSBURY, CT — Local police are looking for residents to sign up and participate in a program that aims to bring them closer to police and the department ... and not be arrested.

Rather, this program, the 21st annual Simsbury Police Department Citizens’ Police Academy, will teach folks a thing or two about what its like enforcing the law and catching the bad guys.

Classes will be held Thursday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. starting March 2 through May 4.

"(Simsbury Police) Chief Nicholas Boulter wishes to invite Simsbury residents, business owners and high school graduates to apply," wrote the SPD in an announcement on the program.

A few of the subjects to be discussed during the 10-week academy are: patrol procedures; arrest procedures; accident investigations; use of force; firearms; emergency services teams; and crime scene investigations.

Those interested can obtain applications from the Simsbury Police Department (933 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury.)

The application deadline is Feb. 24. Applications should be submitted to the attention of Simsbury Community Services Officer Jamie Ball.
