SIMSBURY, CT — The Simsbury Board of Selectmen is, officially, the town body charged with finding a new town manager, a designation made official earlier this month.

At the beginning of March, it was announced Simsbury Town Manager Maria Capriola, the town's first and, so far, only municipal leader, was resigning.

No reason was given for the resignation, but town officials issued statements of praise for Capriola.

Now, selectmen must find a replacement, needing to find an interim to take over after Capriola's last day May 1.

As a result, the Simsbury Board of Selectmen March 13 voted unanimously to appoint selectmen as the "executive search committee," charged with sifting through future applications to manage day-to-day Simsbury municipal operations.

The town manager oversees day-to-day operations, in addition to implementing Simsbury Board of Selectmen goals, ordinances and policies.

The position was created in 2017 following a charter change to a town manager form of government and Capriola started work there in January 2018.
