Simsbury Seniors Throw Birthday Bash for Beau the Therapy Dog

BELDEN FOREST RESIDENTS AND WH STUDENTS CELEBRATE THERAPY DOG'S BIRTHDAY

The residents of Belden Forest Court showed their love for therapy dog Beau by throwing him a birthday bash on Valentine’s Day. Joining the celebration were students from the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford who also enjoy visits from the friendly Basset/Lab dog. Beau’s best friend, a Highland Terrier named Bella, was there as part of her pet therapy training.

“Beau has really become beloved part of our little community,” said Tony Uanino Jr., Director of Operations, at Belden Forest Court in Simsbury. “We wanted to show our appreciation for him and his owner and volunteer, Marilyn Douglas with Tails Of Joy, who visit regularly.”

The residents were treated to a presentation from five teenaged girls from the school who demonstrated how they have taught Beau to respond to sign language. They also showed Belden Forest residents how to “sign” their names. The students also brought hand-made crafts and Valentines for residents and a gift for Beau.

“This gathering demonstrates the positive impact of therapy dogs and their volunteers. Diverse members of the community came together to have fun and learn from each other because of this common bond. Two of our residents who speak sign language were conversing with the students and made them feel at home,” added Uanino.
