Simsbury Skating Event Aims To Collect Food For Needy
The annual 'Simsbury Skate and Share' Friday is free with donations for the local food pantry.

SIMSBURY, CT — Those looking to get a jump on their holiday weekend revelry can start at the Simsbury Farms Ice Rink Friday afternoon and do some community good as well.
The Simsbury Culture, Parks & Recreation Department, with support from the Simsbury Public Library, is hosting its annual "Simsbury Skate and Share" event on Friday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
It will take place at the town's ice rink, which is located at 100 Old Farms Road, Simsbury.

Not only does the event promise to be fun, but it also promises to be economical for the family, with admission being free to skate provided they have a community donation with skate rentals only $5.
With the money saved, folks need to go out and buy a bunch of non-perishable food for the Simsbury Food Pantry, with donations being the cost of admission to the event.

In addition to skating, there will be hot cocoa and cookies, story time with Santa and, even, frozen turkey bowling.
According to the Simsbury Food Pantry, they are looking for canned meats/tuna; pasta sauce; canned tomato products; peanut butter/jelly; canned fruits and vegetables; cereals and crackers, among other food items sought.
In addition, the pantry — operated by the Simsbury Social Services Department — is looking to stock up on toilet paper (individually wrapped or four-packs); household cleaning products; and personal hygiene items for men and women.
