Simsbury Sports Digest for June 6
A stunner in the lax playoffs has Simsbury one win away from the finals.

Now it's on to the final four! The boys lacrosse team shocked top seed Newtown in the Class L state quarterfinals 12-9 Saturday. Matt Bulmer and Trevor Gallagher had four goals each as the Trojans (14-4) stand one victory away from the championship game. The Simsbury defense, anchored by Parker Burr in net, helped contain an explosive Nighthawk offense. Burr made 18 saves for the Trojans who will next play Fairfield Prep Wednesday at a time and neutral site yet to be determined.
Meanwhile members of the boys and girls track teams will participate in the open state championship meet at Willowbrook Park in New Britain today at 1:30 p.m. For the girls, Julia Levesque is a favorite in the 100 meter hurdles and will also run in the 200 meter dash, and the 4 x 100 meter relay. Danielle Robbins will compete in the 400 meters as well as the relay with Levesque. Natalie Valentin will participate in the 300 meter hurdles and the same relay, while Tory Schuler will run in the 800 meters. Other Trojan girls competing include: Alexandra Rechen in the pole vault, Meredith Willis in the long jump, along with Madeline Nicholson and Sydney Reichin in the discus.
For the boys, Kevin Stanko is one of the top seeds in the 800 meters and will also run in the 4 x 800 meter relay along with Merrit Gasho, who will also run in the 400 meters. Dominic Gerardi will compete in the pole vault. Alex Kern will throw the shot put, while Robert Ritz throws the discus.
