
The baseball team struck last in a see-saw affair Monday at Memorial park. The Trojans (3-0) topped Bulkeley 5-4 as Jordan Radin knocked in the game winner. The Simsbury left-fielder went 2 for 4 on the day with a double, 2 rbi, and a run scored. Radin is 5 for 7 on the young season. Pitcher Matt Quintana is now 2-0 as he picked up the win in relief. Next up for Simsbury is Southington today at home. First pitch is slated for 4:45 p.m., weather permitting.
Tuesday was a good day for the boys and girls track teams as they swept a home at home with New Britain. The boys had the away portion as they dominated New Britain 100-31, winning 15 of the 18 events including Alex Kern in the shot put, Bobby Ritz in discus, Merritt Gasho in the 400 meters and Kevin Stanko in the 800. Also Jack Genovese and Joel Kirk qualified for the state championships with their performances in the 3200 meters. Four javelin throwers also made states... Lucas White, Ryan Holowesko, Eric Glynn, and Brian Eilers.
The girls upped their record to 2-0 with a similarly dominating 117-33 victory over New Britain at home. Simsbury was led by Jada Jenkins who
won the 200 meters with a time of 26.62, and anchored the Trojans' winning
4x400 relay team. Erica Hendershot won the triple jump and 300
hurdles, while Caitlin Daily captured first place in the 400 and was a
member of the 4x400 relay team with Jenkins, Amanda Beland, and Tori
Shuler. Shuler also won the 800 meters with a time of 2:24.00.
