Simsbury Sports Digest for April 18

A rundown of all the weekend action along with what's on tap for today.

The girls' tennis team traveled to Madison to take on a tough Daniel Hand High School team Friday in the their season opener. The Trojans fought hard but fell 6-1 to the Tigers. One bright spot for Simsbury was #3 singles player Emily Amarell who won 6-0,6-0. The #1 doubles team of Leah Anderson and Sarah Mattison battled it out with their opponents over 3 sets before eventually losing 6-2, 4-6, 4-6. Next up for Simsbury is Berlin Monday April 25.

The girls lacrosse team was also in Madison to take on Hand on Friday. They also fell victim to the Tigers. 10-9 was the final score evening the Trojans record to 2-2 on the young season.

The boys meanwhile also took on Hand, but their game was in Simsbury Saturday. The result was similar however as the Trojans (1-3) lost 6-8. They'll try to bounce back today as they travel to Norwalk to take on Brien McMahon at 3 p.m.

Also on the schedule ...

The baseball team is in Hartford to play Hartford Public. First pitch is scheduled for 3:45 p.m.

The softball team will welcome in Rocky Hill to the friendly confines of Memorial park also a 3:45 p.m. start time.
