Simsbury Sports Digest for April 25

Last week was spring break, but not for the athletes.

The spring sports season is a short one. Generally official games start in late March and the season is over in early June. That is slightly more than two months to play three months worth of contests.

So, while the rest of was on break last week many varsity athletes practiced and played games. Including the baseball team who had 2 road games with mixed results. They started off well with a decisive 11-0 win over Hartford Public in Hartford last Monday, but they fell to Conard 7-4 in West Hartford on Wednesday. Add that to the loss to Avon on 4/15 and the Trojans (4-3) have lost 3 of 4 after starting off with 3 straight wins. Also they are winless in 2 league games. Simsbury will try to right the ship today as they welcome Newington into Memorial Park at 4:15 p.m.

The boys lacrosse team also had 2 games, but is headed in the opposite direction as they posted 2 wins. The Trojans (3-3) posted two hard fought victories, 9-8 over Brien McMahon in Norwalk on Monday, and 4-2 over Cheshire at home on Thursday. After starting off their season 0-2 Simsbury has won 3 of their last 4.
