Simsbury Sports Digest for June 3

States were a success on the track as well as the field, while three more teams' seasons came to an end.

Julia Levesque and the Simsbury girls track and field team ran to glory at the class L state championships at Middletown High School Thursday. Levesque took first place in the 100 meter hurdles and fifth in the 200 meter dash as the Trojans finished second out of 25 teams with 80 points.

Another key event for Simsbury was the discus where Madeline Nicholson and Sydney Reichin were first and second respectively. Natalie Valentin was also a winner, taking top honors in the 300 hurdles. Other strong performances were turned in by Alexandra Rechen, who placed third in the pole vault along with, Danielle Robbins, who was fourth in the 400 meters, Tory Schuler, who finished fourth in the 800 meters, and Meredith Willis, also a fourth place in the long jump.

The boys also had a strong showing at the Class LL Championships Tuesday at Willowbrook Park in New Britain, as they finished fifth out of 25 teams with 53 points. The key to their meet was no doubt the javelin where Brian Eilers, Eric Glynn, and Ryan Holowesko were first, third, and fifth respectively. Kevin Stanko finished third in the 800 meters, while Merrit Gasho was sixth in 400 meters. Both also ran on the 4 x 800 relay team that finished second. Other strong performances included, Robert Ritz's third in discus, Alex Kern's fourth in shot put and Dominic Gerardi's fifth in pole vault.
