Simsbury Sports Digest for March 11
Just one varsity team is still alive and it only seems appropriate.

As the forecast continues to call for rain and the water is finding its way into many homes in Simsbury, as it has in mine, it should be no surprise who the lone high school athletic team still competing is. That's right, the boys swimming and diving teams are participating in the Class L state championships over the next few days.
The divers kicked off the festivities yesterday at Hamden High School. Matthew Morrison's outstanding season continued as he finished 2nd out of 23 divers with a score of 366.90. In so doing he qualified for the state open championship which will be held next Thursday back at Hamden. Meredith Miller's score of 258 was good enough for 17th place.
Swimming time trials are tomorrow at East Hartford High School starting at 3:30 p.m. The Trojans have 8 swimmers in action. Jehwoo Ahn will swim in the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle. Lee Voghel will try to qualify in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Kyle Chambers also goes in the 100 fly. Doug Nicholson swims in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Christopher Catalano and Christian Gronbeck will join Ahn in the 500 free, while Ben Saperstein goes in the 100 backstroke. Alexander Ratajczak joins Nicholson in the 100 breast.
