Meanwhile the girls season came to an abrupt end on Monday night as they fell to Ridgefield at home 3-2. Maybe, abrupt is the wrong word because it took 5 overtimes to decide this quarterfinal state tournament tilt. Despite being the higher seed and hosting this game, Simsbury knew the Tigers would give them all they could handle. After all Ridgefield was one of just 4 teams to beat them during the regular season.
Simsbury grabbed the early 1-0 lead on Janesa Courtney's first period goal, assisted by Jess Werle. Sam Arnold would add another goal, assisted by Courtney later in the game. The Tigers held firm and finally tied the game late in the 3rd period. Then it took 40 minutes of sudden death to decide this one. Finally Ridgefield won it in the 5th extra session and they now move on to the state semi-finals.

The Trojans are now dealing with the bitter taste of defeat. Not just because their season is over but because they got knocked out at home, in overtime, in a tournament they had hoped to advance to the finals of, after reaching the semis last year. Simsbury did win their 2nd straight conference championship this past weekend, but at this point that surely feels like a small consolation.
