Simsbury Sports Digest for May 13
The beat goes on for boys lax and girls tennis, while a onetime track star triumphs on the collegiate level.

Chalk up another win for the girls tennis team. The Trojans (7-2) won their 3rd match this week on Wednesday, blanking Hall 7-0. 3rd singles player, Emily Amarell remains undefeated on the season after a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Cathy Baker, Natalie St. Denis, and Monika Dragulski also won in straight sets. Dragulski did not lose a game. All 3 doubles teams also won, as they continue their dominance. Simsbury will look to make it 4 wins this week as they host New Britain today at 3:45 p.m.
The boys meanwhile were forced to play short-handed on Wednesday as 2 of their starters were out and it showed as they fell to Hall 6-1. The lone bright spot was the 3rd doubles team of Will Donahue and Dan Brennan who won in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-3.
The winning streak is now 9 games of the boys lacrosse team. The Trojans (10-3) whipped up on Southington 12-3 on Wednesday. Today they travel to West Hartford to battle Northwest Catholic at 4 p.m.

The girls will take on local rival Avon also on the road and also at 4 p.m.
Finally, Meghan Cunningham is a name most people remember. The class of '07 alum is one of the captains of the UConn soccer team. She is also a stand out on the Husky track team and earlier this month she did something that had never been done. The senior ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 10:14.07, a stadium record time at the Big East championships. She is the just the 2nd UConn track athlete to win a conference title in that event.
