Simsbury Sports Digest for May 16
Track and field's best were in town Saturday, while the tennis and lax teams roll.

was the setting for the 80th Greater Hartford Invitational Track and Field meet on Saturday. It is the longest running meet in the state of Connecticut. More than 33 schools took part with more than 1,100 athletes. The Trojan girls took top honors in the large school division with 153 points. Julia Levesque had another strong meet finishing first in the 100 meter hurdles and 3rd in the 4 x 400 and 4 x 100 meter relays. Maddy Nicholson won top honors in the discus. Meredith Willis, Catherine Topalis, and Erica Hendershot finished 2nd in the long jump, 3200 meter run, and 300 meter hurdles respectively. Hendershot also took 3rd in the triple jump.
The Trojan boys also had a solid meet finishing 3rd in the large school division with 65 points. The 4 x 800 relay team of Josh Boltz, Ryan Weiss, Joel Kirk, and Kevin Stanko, broke the school and meet record with a time of 7:59.04, but finished 2nd to Hand who set a new meet record with a time of 7:57.43. Brian Eilers took first place in the javelin, while Dominic Gerardi did the same in the pole vault.
Friday the 13th was anything but unlucky for the Simsbury lacrosse and tennis teams.

The boys lacrosse team stretched it's winning streak to 10 games with a 15-2 destruction of Northwest Catholic. The Trojans (11-3) visit Farmington today at 4 p.m.
The girls whipped up on Avon 14-5. Simsbury (6-3) will host Hall today at 5:30 p.m.

The girls tennis team wrapped up a stellar week with their 4th match win, shutting out New Britain 7-0. Another dominant performance where the Trojans (8-2) did not lose a set and did not lose more than 3 games in any one set. #3 singles player Emily Amarell continued her dominance with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Amarell has not lost a match this season. Simsbury will travel to West Hartford to battle Northwest Catholic today at 3:45 p.m.
The boys will host Northwest Catholic also at 3:45 p.m. today. The Trojans (7-3) also had a successful Friday against New Britain, winning 6-1. Phil Gross, playing #1 singles needed 3 sets to win his match 7-5, 4-6, 6-0. All other wins were straight sets.
