Simsbury Sports Digest for May 23

It's crunch time for most high school sports ... as the season winds down post-season berths are on the line.

The boys volleyball team plays host to Farmington today looking to clinch a spot in the state tournament. The Trojans lost to Bloomfield 3-0 on Friday (25-18, 25-18, and 25-20). The boys played very well against a Bloomfield team with 3 very good hitters. Simsbury was led once again by Ben Shelley with 13 kills, 5 digs, and 2 aces.  Bobby Franklin had 2 blocks and 3 kills. Matt Conrad had 5 kills.

The boys and girls tennis teams have played well all season and this week will be more about seeding for the play-offs.

Friday the girls foiled Farmington 5-1 in a rain shortened affair. #3 singles player Emily Amarell continues to be perfect on the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Also winning in straight sets were Natalie St. Denis and all 3 doubles  teams: Leah Anderson/Katie Thorne, Jenna Verrengia/Audrey Goulart, and Nicole Baker/Danielle Weingartner. Lindsay Lane's match was stopped because of the rain. The Trojans (9-2) will battle Nortwest Catholic tomorrow at 3:45 p.m. in West Hartford.
