Simsbury Sports Digest for May 25
Triumph on the track while the beat goes on the tennis court.

Erica Hendershot and the Simsbury girls track and field team won the CCC West championship meet at the high school yesterday in dominating fashion, amassing a total of 195 points to runner-up Hall’s 107.25. Hendershot led the way with wins in the triple jump and 100 meter hurdles and a 2nd in the low hurdles as the Trojans won their 2nd straight CCC west title. Other winners included Danielle Robbins in the 400 meters, as well as the 4x400 meter relay team of Robbins, Caitlin Daily, Torey Schuler, and Natalie Valentin. Simsbury now prepares for the Class “L” state championship at Middletown High School on Friday, June 2.
The boys tennis team is cruising right along as they beat East Catholic Tuesday 6-1. The match of the day was played in #1 doubles where Justin Keppel and Ethan Kyzviat needed 3 sets to win 6-2, 5-7, 7-5. Eduardo Rosadio, Austin Dubois won in straight sets although Dubois needed a tie-breaker to win the 2nd set. Also winning in straight sets were #2 and #3 doubles teams of Omesh Kamat/Colin Kirkland and Will Donahue/Dan Brennan. The Trojans (9-3) visit Conard at 4 p.m. today.
The girls also seem to be on auto-pilot as they shut out Northwest Catholic 7-0. The Trojan girls (10-2) lost only one set all day. It was the #1 doubles match where Leah Anderson and Sarah Mattison dropped the first set 1-6 before storming back in sets two and three, 6-4 and 6-3. The remaining 6 matches were won in straight sets. Emily Amarell had another impressive performance 6-1, 6-1. The #3 singles player has not lost a match all season. As a team Simsbury is unbeaten in league play at 6-0. They'll wrap up the regular season on Thursday at home against Conard at 4 p.m.
Last Friday the Simsbury boys lacrosse team saw its 11 game winning streak come to an end at the hands of Glastonbury 8-5. Those 2 teams will meet Thursday to decide the CCC champion. The Trojans (12-4) and Tomahawks will face off at 5:30 p.m. in Glastonbury.
