Simsbury Sports Digest for Sept. 27, 2011

Simsbury shines in field hockey and volleyball while injuries finally took their toll on the grid-iron.

It was a true team effort for the Simsbury Field Hockey team as they beat Southington 6-2 on Monday. There were 5 different goal scorers including Jaime Matson, Kelly Knisel, Ari Arciero, Audrey Allen and  Sarah Chamberlain who had 2 goals. Allen also added 3 assists. Knisel chipped in with 2, and Matson and Allie Patrina had 1 assist each. Allison Renwick stood tall in net for the Trojans (3-1) with 11 saves. Simsbury will look for win number 4 on Friday as they battle E.O. Smith.

After gutting out a win against Newington in their opener, the Simsbury High football team succumbed to injuries once again in a 28-0 loss to Conard on Friday. Brendan Conway who filled in so admirably at quarterback for injured starter Steven Steijn in week one, followed Steijn onto the injured list with a broken collarbone. While that drama was unfolding on the football field, just across the parking lot at the gymnasium, the volleyball team was rolling over another opponent. The Trojans are a perfect 5-0 after taking all 3 games against Hartford Public Friday.
