Simsbury Sports Digest for Sept. 30, 2011
A perfect start to the volleyball season for Simsbury, while the football team hopes to bounce back in Manchester.

Not even a strong Northwest Catholic team could slow down the Simsbury volleyballers. The Trojans edged the Indians 3 games to 2 on Wednesday to stretch their record to 7-0. Monday, Simsbury topped Maloney at home by that same 3-2 score, Julie Dennen had 12 assists and 10 digs while Laura Yablecki contributed 14 digs and 10 kills. Next up is Southington tonight at 6 p.m. in Simsbury.
Injuries have been the story for the Simsbury High football team in this young season. The Trojans gutted out a 14-7 win in week one despite the loss of their starting quarterback Steve Steijn to a season-ending knee injury. Brendan Conway who led Simsbury to that victory in Steijn's stead was then knocked out of their week two contest with Conard, a 28-0 loss, with a broken collarbone. Tonight Simsbury plays its first road game of the season as they travel to Manchester to battle the Indians at 6 p.m.
Also on the schedule ... the Simsbury field hockey team is looking for their fourth win of the year as they visit E.O. Smith for a 3:45 p.m. face off.
