Simsbury Stands Against Hate Vigil Scheduled for Thursday

The vigil will stress the themes of unity, promoting peace and community.

SIMSBURY, CT — In the wake of the events in Charlottesville, Va. last weekend, State Rep. John Hampton and Simsbury First Selectwoman Lisa Heavner are asking area residents to join them Thursday evening at Simsbury Town Hall for a vigil stressing the themes of unity, promoting peace and community, and demonstrating that communities like Simsbury are stronger when they pull together.

“We are our most powerful when we stand together to demand and protect human rights. Please join us as we commit to love in the face of hate and hope in the face of fear,” Hampton said.

The vigil begins at 7 p.m. in front of the clock outside Town Hall. Those attending are welcome to bring music, poems or words of inspiration to share.

“People of good will, regardless of party affiliation, race or creed, recognize that hate and bigotry have no place in this country,” Heavner said. “The Board of Selectmen and the citizens of Simsbury demonstrate every day how much more we can accomplish when we respect each other and work together.”
