Simsbury Theater Group Celebrates 50 Years
Tickets are on sale now for the 50th anniversary gala on Oct. 6, as well as for October's showing of 'The Wizard of Oz.'

SIMSBURY, CT — A local theater group is celebrating a momentous anniversary next week as the Theatre Guild of Simsbury is hosting a 50th Anniversary gala.
There will be special events this fall to commemorate when, 50 years ago, a group of Simsbury residents "sat around discussing their mutual love of theater and decided to create an organization to share that common interest with the community."

The high point of the year’s anniversary celebration will be a gala event at the Simsbury Inn, 397 Hopmeadow St.,on Friday, Oct. 6, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The festivities include an open bar cocktail hour hosted by the group, hors d’oeuvres, plated dinner, dessert, dancing, memorabilia, theater trivia and a cash bar.

Tickets are $75 each and must be purchased in advance at theatreguildsimsbury.org.
After purchasing a ticket, guests will be directed to a member survey.
"The gala event promises to be a night to remember and a fitting tribute to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in TGS over the past 50 years," wrote the guild in an announcement.
Meanwhile, this October, TGS will present L. Frank Baum’s "The Wizard of Oz."
"This well-loved classic receives a modern twist, under the artistic vision of director Doreen
Cohn," wrote the guild.
The Wizard of Oz will be performed on Oct. 21, 28, 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 22 and 29 at
2 p.m. at Simsbury High School.
Tickets are $25 for reserved seating and $20 for the family matinee on Oct. 22, and can be purchased in advance at theatreguildsimsbury.org. All tickets are reserved seating. Save $5 by purchasing ahead of time on the website as tickets are $30 at the door.
