SIMSBURY, CT — Buying reusable bags at the local supermarket can do more than just help the planet, it can help a local veterans organization too.

Simsbury’s Metacomet Post 1926 Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) has been selected by the Simsbury Big Y store leadership as the benefiting nonprofit in the Big Y Community Bag Program for the month of November.

In addition to Simsbury, the VFW chapter also serves the Granby and East Granby communities.
Under this program, shoppers can give back to the local community and help to reduce single-use plastics by purchasing a special reusable bag at Big Y, the Simsbury VFW wrote.

Under the program, every $2.50 reusable Big Y Community Bag sold supports a non-profit local to the store in which it was purchased.

Every month, at every Big Y location a different local non-profit is selected to benefit from the sale of these special reusable bags.
