
The true test of a team is how it responds to adversity. After a promising start to the 2011-12 campaign the Simsbury girls basketball team hit its first real bump in the road last week, falling to Farmington and in the process losing its 3rd straight game, their longest skid of the season. Tuesday's tilt against Hartford Public was a must win for a Trojan team with post season aspirations. Allie Davis and Co. responded with a decisive 67-40 victory over the Owls. Davis, who is enjoying a superlative sophomore season, notched another double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior co-captain Taylor Perry led the Trojans (7-7) with 17 points. Nicky Rounseville added 10 points and 6 rebounds while sophomore Caroline Murphy helped out with 14 assists for Simsbury who hosts Conard tonight at 7 p.m.
The boys basketball team was in Enfield on Tuesday to take on a winless Fermi team. The Trojans, who were also trying to bounce back from a loss to Farmington, did not disappoint as they foiled the Falcons 61-44. What a night for Devin Conley who recorded a triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 15 blocked shots. Jake Downing scored 15 points and Norman Dawkins played a season high 16 minutes off the bench with 3 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Simsbury (8-4) will be in West Hartford for Conard tomorrow at 7 p.m.
The girls ice hockey team meanwhile is playing some of its best hockey of the season. Wednesday the Trojans shut out Hand High School of Madison 4-0. Tess Mackay, Jess Werle, Laura Yablecki and Sutton Wunderle scored the goals while netminders Dani Sullivan and Dana Kelly combined on Simsbury's 3rd straight shut-out. Next up for the Trojans (10-2) is a trip to Guilford on Saturday for a 6 p.m. face-off.

The boys ice hockey team is back in action Saturday after a week long hiatus as they host South Windsor at 1 p.m. at the . The Trojans have not played a game since their 6-1 thumping of Tri-Town last Saturday.
The news was also good on the wrestling mat as Simsbury handled Hall 36-24 on Wednesday. This was a pretty close match as only 2 of the Trojans' wins were pins, including John DePasquale and Jacob Feldman. Winning by decision were Ed Novak, Brad Helmkamp, Stephon King, Ben Durst, Tucker Salls, Gerals Nelson and Austin Weiss. Next up or Simsbury (9-6) is a meet Saturday morning at Fermi at 9 a.m. where coach Ernie Goodwin will have a chance to notch his 100th win as Simsbury head coach.
