Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company Team Completes Charity Stair Climb

The Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company team of Todd Kelley (team captain), Ken Boudreau, Eli Brenner, Rick Callahan, Joseph Corbett, Ryan Long, Christopher Sanetti, and Brian Tomaska, competed in the 2023 Fight for Air Climb, a fundraiser for the American Lung Association. The team was the third-place fundraising team with $8,635. Corbett was the team leader in individual fundraising at $2,590, second place overall in Hartford; while Kelley raised $1,775; and Petrella raised $1,260.

The Hartford stair climb moved back to Hartford 21 on Trumbell St. At 36 stories, the skyscraper in downtown Hartford has approximately 680 stairs. During COVID the climb was held in Dunkin’ Donuts Park and was 976 steps throughout the stadium seating. Over the last 12 years, climbers have raised over $65 million dollars.

Brenner led the team to third place among the firefighter teams. His time was 6:26 and the team time was 36:04.

The American Lung Association is the leading organization working on improving lung health and preventing lung disease, according to its website. Founded in 1904 to combat tuberculosis, they are the oldest voluntary health organization.
