Firefighters Rick Callahan, Firetown station, Justin Simpson, Bushy Hill station, and Katie Tsitaridis, Firetown station, of the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company, have been certified Firefighter I by the State of Connecticut.
The 160-hour course covers fire suppression, breathing apparatus, search and rescue, ladders, ropes, hydrant hook-up, and salvage and overhaul. The class prepares students to become on-line firefighters, trained in all phases of fire suppression.
Simpson and Tsitaridis joined the fire company as cadets, Simpson in 2010 and Tsitaridis in 2009. Callahan has been a member since 2011.
