Simsbury Voters Decide Fate of Referendum Items

SIMSBURY, CT — Less than 6 percent of registered voters in Simsbury headed to the polls Tuesday to decide the fate of four referendum questions.

According to figures provided on the town web site, just 1,027 residents participated in the balloting, out of 17,929 names on the official registry list of electors.

Items on the ballot included approving budgets for the Board of Selectmen and Board of Education, and appropriating $2.6 million for partial roof replacement at Simsbury High School.

All four questions passed by wide margins. Here are the questions and their vote totals:

• Shall the appropriation recommended and approved by the Board of Finance for the purposes of paying the expenses of the Board of Selectmen annual budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020, be approved and implemented in the amount of $23,970,138?
  YES - 636; NO - 387
• Shall the appropriation recommended and approved by the Board of Finance for the purposes of paying the expenses of the Board of Education annual budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020, be approved and implemented in the amount of $70,880,978?
  YES - 696; NO - 331
• Shall the appropriation recommended and approved by the Board of Finance for the purposes of paying the expenses of Sewer Use Fund (Sewer Treatment Plant), Residential Rental Properties, Simsbury Farms/Special Programs, Non-Public Schools, Debt Retirement / Capital and Capital Non-Recurring annual budgets for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020, be approved and implemented in the amount of $12,242,717?
  YES - 736; NO - 290
• Shall the Town of Simsbury appropriate $2,600,000 for partial roof replacement at Simsbury High School; and authorize bonds and notes in the same amount to finance said appropriation?
  YES - 806; NO - 220
